Innate Style

There is quite an art to creating a home - like writing a novel or making a movie - it has a lot of chapters and needs to be finely crafted in order make a cohesive story fill of depth, mystery and intrigue.  A reflection of your values, passions & dreams. Innate style is when all the visual

and tactile parts play together to represent

your innate sense of style.

Composition

Everything is a composition.  How we view the room, the landscape, the tabletop - the eye is scanning all the components to curate a pleasing composition. The silhouettes and negatives spaces juxatposed with the textures & colours to read as a complete visual story.

The eye must have somewhere to travel.

Connection

Understanding how every piece and decision talks to every other piece and decision is a key to making a beautifully curated home.  The yin & yan, the contrasts, the masculine & feminine energy - there must always be a connection.

Colour Palette

Curating a colour palette to seamlessly flow throughout your home is vital to the feel and mood of each individual space.  Colour is very nuanced, holds limitless possibilities and changes depending upon the time of the day. Base, complementary and contrasting colours dictate the

energy of a room.  Gathering a colour palette together of pale,

mid and dark tones is essential in the art of making

a home.

Contrasts & Weights

Well executed interiors always work with contrast - light & dark, male & female, shiny & rough..you get the picture.  Playing with contrast creates tension which in turn creates interest.

Well executed interiors also work with weights -  of the lines,

weight of colours, weight of contrasts, weight of density -

transparent or opaque. Alchemy occurs when the

weight of all components comes

together and is in balance.

Achieving a delicate poise is where the expertise lies.

Levels, Lines & Layers

A well executed room consists of levels, lines & layers in order to evolve.  The eye needs to bounce around a room landing at a various different heights to capture attention, going both vertically & horizontally and in differing weights - both heavy & light.  The ability to visualise your

space is the expertise we have as interior designers - building

the space layer by layer in our heads.  Once we see how it

forms we then begin the layering of textures, shapes,

patterns and colours.

Silhouettes & Shapes

As part of the composition and layering of a room is the choice of differing silhouettes and shapes to create atmosphere & intrigue.  Playing with scale and volume adds to the mix of elements - whether it's linear or organic, shapes you are drawn to reflect your personal style.

A little bit of Puff & Humour

Every room needs that piece that makes you smile, captures a memory gone, or stops you in your tracks to just stare or linger - it might be a piece of art, a sculpture, flower vase, light fitting, personal collection or an array of disparate items that talk to you  - add little 'explosions' that tease the eye and make it dance around the room. Maybe its an intense

colour or the use of pattern in an unexpected place,

shininess, a burst of nature, a floral creation

make it something out of the ordinary -

the unexpected!

Find those puff pieces for every room of the house.

Finally ..... a Cohesion

Once all the pieces of the puzzle are placed or like every instrument in the orchestra finding its note - that's when you have achieved a form of completeness.  When you feel joy and contentment with a sense of atmosphere -you can't quite pinpoint it but your energy increases

you then know you have achieved cohesion and a quiet

satisfaction that everything is in its place.
